"LETS RAISE A 'GLASS' TO NEW TECHNOLOGY!"

Posted '5:05 pm bells' Sunday 25th Joon 2023

LA'S INGENIOUS GLASS WALLED STADIUM

News that NUFC want to increase wor groond capacity to 62,000, NOT by puttin another tier on The Gallowgate End az expected, but by rebuilding The East Stand with glassware at the back with gaps between the tiers to let the light get through to Leazes Terrace!

They could anly build The East Stand so high and have an upward sloppin roof from the rear so it let the light shine onto Leazes Terrace!---This woz one of the conditions we had to adhere to when the Stand woz built in 1972!

Technology haz moved on in massive leaps since then and one American Futbaal stadium in LA haz lightweight but very strong glass rear waalls and ingeniously, gaps between the 4 tiers to let the light through (see photo below)

GAPS IN THE TIERS TO LET THE SUNLIGHT THROUGH!

This we 'fink' iz wot wor owners plan to dee to increase the capacity by 9 or 10,000!

Then of course they can then make The Gallowgate End a mirror image of The Leazes End to forthaa increase capacity to 70,000ish!

Let it happen-- and happen soon!🙏

HAPPY BORTHDAY TO ME!---"IT'S WOR CUP!!!"

Posted 'high noon bells' Munday 12th Joon 2023

FRANKIE CLARK & BOBBY MONCUR PARADE THE CUP IN
FRONT OF THE WEST STAND & CENTRE PADDOCK
-----I'M IN THE CENTRE PADDOCK (SOMEWHERE!?)
(Even 'The Dibble' were clappin'!)
"NEE 'SOCIAL DISTANCIN' IN THOSE DAYS!"

The Fairs Cup celebrations continued from the previous day (see below) when we paraded the coverted silverware aroond St James' Park.

One home made banner made oot of a tatty bed sheet and hand written in black paint summed it up: "IT'S WOR CUP!", the banner proclaimed!

Aa was somewhere in the Centre Paddock that day and it was a very special day for me for it was aalso mee 15th borthday!

It is STILL to this day the best borthday 'present' that a'v ever had!
("Er!"---"It shouldn't be tooo hard to work oot how old I am today!? <("quick!---pass mee zimmerframe!")
Clue: It iz mee 'treble 21st plus 6'!

FAIRS CUP WINNERS!---54th ANNIVORSARY!---TODAY!

Posted 'high noon bells' Sunday 11th Joon 2023

On this day 54 ago 'The Toon' won the old Inter Cities Fairs Cup in the Hungarian capital of Budapest by beatin' Ujpest Dozsa 3-2 on the day and 6-2 on aggregate, after wor
3-0 forst leg win a fortneet orlier .

I was still a schoolkid at the time and me and mee mate 'Billy the Skin' listened to the final on a crackly old valve radio in his bedroom of his muthaaz hoose as the game wasn't televised live.

It didn't look 'ower clever' by half time as we were two-nowt doon, but as the 2nd half started, Bobby Moncur vollied in to pull one back and Ujpest just collapsed after that.

Benny Arentoft got wor equaliser soon after  and then Alan Foggon got the winner from a rebounded shot off himsel? as the radio commentator screamed his heed off:"IT'S A GOAL!--IT'S A GOAL!", he shouted at the top of his voice, above the 'crattles' of the radio, and it was 'game ower' as the ref blew the final whistle soon after!

The bedroom floor nearly collapsed as we jumped up and doon on the creakin' floorboards in jubulation, as, (just like the radio commentator) WE shouted at the top of WOR VOICES as well!

We celebrated wor win by runnin' doon nearby Whickham Highway wavin' an NUFC flag and a huge 'Rangers' 'William of Orange banner' depictin' a gadgie wearin' a funny lookin' hat, ridin' a white horse, (would you believe!) which Billy had 'half inched' as a souviner from the policehut at 'The Leazes End', after we'd played and beaten Rangers in the Fairs Cup semi final @ St James Park in May!
(At the time we didn't have a clue aboot the 'significance ' of the sectarian nature of the banner---we were just schoolkids after aall!)

Some very puzzled motorists on the road nearly crashed their cars when they seen us!, but they 'didn't have a clue eetha' just wot we were dein', as we sang and danced and waved the huge banner! (which we could hardly lift as it was so heavy!)
"AAAHHH! BRILLIANT MEMORIES!"

 Posted '12:24pm bells' Wedinzday 7th Joon 2023

For starters aa naa absolutleee nowt aboot golf, but the news that the PIF who own NUFC have merged LIV Golf with the PGA Tour, haz made eruptions aroond the world!

This iz good news for NUFC fans and hopefully this will put the protests aboot wor takeover by the PIF onto the back burner, and let them focus on golf instead!

It will be interestin wot golf players Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods will dee, az they were 100% opposed to The Saudis in golf and torned doon eye waterin money, reported to be $140 MILLION to join LIV Golf!?

Watch this space for forthaa news!

PS: The one and anly time av played golf woz on Whitley Bay's miniature golf course many moons ago! The miniature course woz near the top of a cliff and ah hit mee forst shot straight ower the cliff edge and into the North sea!---never to be seen again!--- and lost mee deposit on the golf baall! "FOR THOSE OF YOO WHO HAVE LONG MEMORIES, LOOK AWAY NOW!"

Posted 'bells' Thorzday 1st Joon 2023

"THE TIMES THEY ARE 'A' CHANGIN'!"

Tuezday October 20th 2009 iz a date that brought a low point in wor lang Futbaall Leegue history. For this iz the day we went to Scunthorpe United in The Championship and somehow managed to lose 2-1!

2,185 hardy souls had travelled doon from Tyneside in a sold oot away end and were part of Scunny's biggest ever crowd at Glanford Park of 8,921!

Kevin Nolan scored wor solitary goal, but 2 goals from Scunthorpe's Martyn Woolford 'pulled the wool ower wor eyes' (sic!) in a humiliatin defeat!

A'd went to this game with Toon fan 'The Undertaker' in hiz 'jam jar' and in hiz effort to get a quick getaway aftter the game, he crashed hiz car into the back of anothaa car!---The driver got oot and we thought "Oh no there might be trouble here!", but it woz a Toon fan who we knew caalled 'Clarky' and az the damage woz nowt more than a slightly scrapped bumper he just laughed it off!

(Tragically, 'The Undertaker' lost hiz life with Toon fan 'Liam from The Lamp' ,when the plane they woz travellin on to New Zealand to watch NUFC friendlies in 2014, woz shot doon ower Ukraine!)

Fast forward nearly 24 years (sorry 14 years-- thanx to Jimmy the Riddler for spottin my dilibritt mistayk!) and NUFC have qualified for The Champions Leegue, with the prospect of mouth waterin games v Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Barcelona to look forward tee! ---while Scunny have been relegated from the National Leegue and must play their futbaall in The National Leegue North next season, which iz 'level 6' in the pyramid system with the prospect of 'mouth waterin' games against Sooth Sheeelds, King's Lynn Toon and The Spartans from Blyth to look forward tee!

ie: The 2 teams couldn't possibly be further apart now---could they!?

(PS: NUFC aalso lost 6-1 at Leyton Orient in a pre season friendly that year!!!---AYE! we were there az well!)
