THE TOON 2 RANGERS 0 *** INTER CITIES FAIRS CUP SEMI FINAL 2nd LEG

Posted '2:20pm bells' Tuesday 21st May 2019

JACKIE SINCLAIR (centre of pic) SCORES WOR 2nd GOAL
WHICH STARTED THE RANGERS PITCH INVASION

"AYE!---HOOLIGANS WERE DEFINATELY ALIVE AND KICKIN', HALF A CENTURY AGO!"

Just a week after a'd hitch hiked to Glasgow for wor Fairs Cup game v Rangers, which ended 0-0, (see 'ground 10' in archive section), we played the home leg at St James' Park when 'The Gallowgate End' woz invaded by Rangers fans (the 'away end' in those day)
NOTE THAT SOME OF THE RANGERS HOOLIGANS
 WERE WEARIN' SUITS AND TIES!

Jimmy Scott had scored the forst goal in the 52nd minute and when Jackie Sinclair added the 2nd in the 77th minute to win the tie, Rangers fans hurled bottles and invaded the pitch to try and get the match abandoned!
JIMMY SCOTT SCORES 1st GOAL AT THE LEAZES END!

I woz in The Leazes End that neet (The 'Toon end' in those days) az the battle unfolded on the pitch with the local dibble and dog handlers caalled to restore order---it took 20 minutes to clear the pitch!

The notorious 'Leazes Enders' stood firm az we knew that if WE invaded the pitch to confront them, the game would probably have been abandoned!---Which of course woz wot the Rangers fans wanted!
RANGERS FANS CLIMB A FLOODLIGHT PYLON
AT THE GALLOWGATE END

THE 100 AWAY PUB CRAWL CHALLENGE IZ DONE AND DUSTED! **** (125 FINAL TOTAL!)

Updated periodically az away pubs are added to list!
Last updated Wedinzday 15th May 2019 on wor last trip of the season to Fulim
TOON FANS ENJOY A FEW 'GARGELS' IN BAR GUNDELESE,
WHICH OFFERS SPECTACULAR VIEWS OWER PORTO
(BAR NUMBER 024)

                     "100 NOT OOT!"---WE'VE DONE IT!"

Six years ago, durin' the 2012-2013 season, we did a '100 PUB CRAWL CHALLENGE' for NUFC home games!
We had ne idea just how many drinkin dens there were within the 'NE1' poscode area and if it woz possible to de it!

To wor amazement we actually did 102 pubs/clubs ower the season!---and there were still loads we hadn't done!
Aall the bars/clubs were within 20 minutes waalkin distance of St James' Park!
We had decided (against wor better judgement!) to try and de at least 100 pubs/clubs etc for AWAY games this season!

In pre season we visited 38 'liquid lubrication locations' on wor travels to Barrow in Furness, Ireland, Cornwall and Portugal! (Theeze included airport bars and a butchers shop in Porto that sold beer!) (17 bars/butchers visited in Porto in total!)
Wor forst away game in The Premyaa Leegue sent us to Cardiff, where we did 9 bars in 2 days at various locations!.
We indexed aall the drinkin dens az we did them---the anly rule bein' that we COULDN'T  include the same bar twice, even on different visits to say London, for example!

Amazingly!--we have created history and done well ower 100, the 100 woz done on Saturday 2nd March at precisely '9:33pm bells' when we visited The Oxford Arms in Camden Town, London!!!
(West Ham game)
The last pub crawl of the season took us to Fulim in west London when we did 5 more pubs ---bringin' the grand total to 125 bars/clubs etc
This woz wor 28th away game, watchin wor 1st team, U23/Resorve team and U18/Junior team!

We are very surprized that we had 'done it' so quickly!
When we went to Lestaa a week gone Friday, for example, we went to 'The Regent Club' and stopped there for 'the duration'!--(ie: just ONE bar az mentioned)
At Nottingham Forest in the Leegue Cup last year we anly managed to de ONE drinkin' den because of delays--- and at Man City we did 3, but one of them woz a bar we had been te on the way to Cardiff in between trains---so we couldn't include it again (The Whiskey Jar)
Just one new bar v Liverpool az well (we did Barlow Arms again but can't include that eethaa)

London woz wor best bet to 'de it', and of course we HAVE, az there are a multitude of bars at various locations! (44 different London bars in 12 away trips!)

Those "Go Sober in October!" and "Dry January!" campaigners had better watch oot! ---az The Geordie Times iz 'fightin' back' and haz broken the 100 boozer barrier!
"Go high OCTane in OCTober!"
"Lets gan on a bender in November and December!"
"Lets gan on 'the bevvy' in Janu-ery!"---"and Febu-ery!"

Theeze are excitin' times for 'The Geordie Times entourage'! <(we naa aall the BIG words!)

THE 100 AWAY PUB CRAWL CHALLENGE IZ DONE!
