Ground number 81 with Dunston, Norwood Road, Beverley
“NORTHERN RAIL π TAKIN THE P*SS!” (OR NOT AZ THE CASE MAY BE!)
Never havin been to Beverley’s groond before, it woz decided to take the train to York—and onward with Northern Rail to Beverley! (Davy the Silver Fox, hiz side-kick Barbara, Tex Taylor and 'me'!)
The forst leg went OK and when we got to York the Northern Train woz waitin for us on the next platform! (So far, so good!)
On the way doon to York, aa had a can of cider to ‘while the time away’ and didn’t give it a second thought to use the ‘toolshed’ on that train—But by the time we boarded the 2nd train, it woz time to gan!
It woz anly a 2 carriage train and the forst ‘toolshed’ woz oot of order! And so woz the 2nd one!!! I asked the ticket inspector where there woz one and she replied: “There are NO toilet facilities on this train!” It woz a 90 minute jorney to Beverley from York, via Hull and I woz burstin for a slash! (p*ss!)
Wot a joke!—A train that travels between York and its final destination of Bridlington, had nee toolsheds (bogs!) for the 2 hour jorney!
I had nee choice but to abandon a 2nd can of ‘easy rider’ and try and ‘hold it in’!
Somehow I managed and heeded for the nearest one at Beverley station— but guess wot?—it woz padlocked and metal bars on the entrance! (for gods sake!!!)⬇️
“ANGEL DELIGHT!”
The nearest boozer woz caalled ‘The Angel’ and when I got there the relief woz ‘bliss’ az I’d nearly p*ssed mee pants by this time!
Anyway—-enough of that! We’d booked digs in The Dog and Duck boozer and heeded there to dump wor bags and 'down' some more ale! (Az yi dee!)
Eventually we ended up at a boozer near the groond caalled The Durham Ox after visitin 'The Beaver' and 'The Royal Standard Inn', on the way past a landmark church (read on!)—-It had been fine up til that point, but there woz ‘bad news’ az we looked oot of the window!
Torrential rain woz bouncing off the road and it didn’t look az though it would ease off!
When it woz time to heed for the match it woz still ‘chucking’ it doon’ and we were drenched by the time we got through the pay gate!
There were smaall shelters dotted aroond the groond and we heeded for the one nearest to 'the end' Dunston kicked towards in the forst half!
It woz rainin that hard, that aa half expected that the game would be abandoned with a waaterlogged pitch az Dunston had most of the orly possession!
There looked to be a canny crowd, considerin the conditions--and with Champions Leegue futbaall on the telly, it would have been easy to say that you would 'give the game a miss' and watch 'the games on the box' instead!---Well done to aall those fans, who decided to support their local team instead! (Includin the 30ish Dunston fans and committee who travelled doon for this midweek fixture!)
The forst goal came in the 8th minute, when the Beverley keeper made a hash of a clearence and Dunston's Kneeshaw rounded him and passed to Robinson, who had the simple task of placin the baall into an undefended goal! 1-0 to Dunston!
Ross then hit the bar from lang range for Dunston 5 minutes later and then Kneeshaw's shot iz parried away and faalls nicely for Edwards to plant the baall into the net to double the visitors lead! 2-0 to Dunston!
Immedietely 'Bev' pulled one back through to half the defeceit! 2-1 to Dunston!
Dunston's young keeper Jones (who iz on loan from NUFC!) then made an excellent stop to deny the home side the equaliser!
The 4th goal of the game came just before the break, when Wilson tapped home after another unfortunate errror from the Beverley keeper! 3-1 to Dunston half time!
A mad dash to the Beverley clubhoose to get oot of the rain and (of course!) for the half time 'liquid lubrications'!
Beverley played much better in the 2nd period, but couldn't break the Dunston defence doon again and the game ended in a 3-1 win for *The Bad Blue Boys in red, who rise to 2nd place in the table, just 4 points behind Bradford Park Avenue, with a game in hand!
Attendance: 347 super fans!
And this woz their 7th win in a row az well!--"Happy days!"
Me and Tex got lost on the way back to The Dog and Duck digs in the pourin rain and we were like 'ducks out of water' when we finally made it! (sic!)
We knew that the church we had passed⬆️ woz a local landmark and heeded for it, az wor digs were just doon the road from there!--Unfortunately we homed in on the WRANG church, az little bekown to us, there were THREE churches near Beverley town centre!
We'd got totally lost and disorientated because of this! "Quack! Quack!"
Footnote Beverley's nickname iz 'The Beavers'
and Dunston are caalled 'The Bad Blue Boys'
