THE TOON 2 BORNMOOOTH 1 *** PREMYAA LEEGUE 2019-2020
Posted '10:30am bells' Remembrance Sunday 10th November 2019
♫"HE FLIES LIKE A BIRD IN THE SKY-I-I-I!♬
We simply didn't naa wot to expect from a team that haz been blowin' hot and cold aall season!
Luckily for us it woz canny waam (warm) in the freezing cold! and we came oot 2-1 winners thanx to a spectacular flyin' heeded goal by Yedlin in the first half and a close range effort from Clark to put him on 3 goals for the season (top goalscorer!)
NUFC went behind in the 14th minute when an unmarked Wilson slammed the baall into the net from just inside the penalty area to give Bornmoooth the lead at The Gallowgate End!
We are made of sterner stuff these days and the Yedlin equaliser came in the 42nd minute from a great centre by Saint Maximin (or woz it a shot?) which Yedlin heeded in from close range as he flew through the air!
Just before this Maximin had broke through the Bornmoooth defence and hit the bar, when it looked much easier to score!
We went in level at the break!
The game could have went eethaa way, as both teams had chances in the 2nd period, but it woz 'us' who got the vital 2nd goal through Clark in the 53rd minute after a scramble in the box and he toe poked the baall into the goal!
Almiron woz dead unlucky not to get hiz forst goal for The Toon 10 minutes from the end, when hiz shot hit Saint Maximin who lay injured in the Gallowgate penalty area, and (of course) it went wide! UNREEEL! (In othaa words, Saint Maximin 'denied' Almiron and 'saved' Bornmoooth from gannin 3-1 doon!)
7 minutes of injury time woz added, but we managed to haad on to claim back to back wins and propel us up to the dizzy heights of 11th in the table, above the likes of Moan U and Sporz (for the time bein at least!)
Toon team: Dubravka, Yedlin, Fernandez, Lascelles (Dummett 20), Clark, Willems, Shelvey, Hayden, Almiron, Saint-Maximin (Atsu 90), Joelinton
Attendance: 44,424? (800 or so Bornmoooth fans huddled in the far corner of level 7 in The Leazes End)
With quite a few empty seats, we estimate that the actual attendance woz aroond aboot 40,000!) (This iz still nearly SIX times higher than the SMBs got for their FA Cup tie with Gillingham on the same afternoon! (7,800!)
*More pix and team line ups to follow later az a'm gannin to a remembrance ceremony at '11:00 bells'
Geordie Times grovellin apology!--We said that Clark woz wor top goalscorer with 3 goals!====In fact he iz wor joint top goalscorer with Shelvey on 2 goals!

THE TOON v BORNMOOOTH *** TOMORROW AFTERNOOON!
Posted '2:36pm bells' Friday 8th November 2019
NUFC gan into tomorrow's home game against Bornmoooth in buoyant mood after wor great 3-2 win at West Ham last Saturday to give us 3 wins in 11 Premyaa Leegue starts! (3 draws and 5 defeats =12 points)
We can anly hope that wor 'Jekyll and Hyde' performances so far this season will produce a 'Dr Jekyll' performance and NOT a 'Mr Hyde' one! (Or shud that be the othaa way roond???)
Bornmoooth, however, are aalso in 'buoyant mood' after their 1-0 home win against Moan United last week and hopefully it will be a canny 'game in the rain' (wethaa forecast for tomorrow) and that we can win 'back to back' games for the forst time this season!
Sean Longstaff iz still suspended and both Fabian Schar and Matt Ritchie are expected to miss the game az they recover from injury!
Wor visitors are not expected to bring more than 500 fans, so the crowd is likely to be in the low 40,000s as the boycott continues!
Meeenwhile!---wor U23s were in action at Blue Flames in Benton at dinnaatime today against West Brom U23s and lost 1-0 in The U23s Premyaa Leegue Cup group stage in front of a 144 'crowd'!
(which included 'Broken Nose Bruce')

The plannin' decision to allow/not to allow a massive tower block development on land to the south of St. James' Park will take place tomorrow by Newcasil City Cooncil in Jesmond (A Newcasil suburb)
The land iz where the current car park iz, behind The Gallowgate Stand and shud the development pass the vote, it will block fabulous views of "The Cathedral on the Hill", az Bobby Roobson caalled it!
Aalso, it could stop any future expansion of The Gallowgate End and 'land-lock' SJP!
Despite huge protest from NUFC fans, we fear that it WILL be allowed to gan aheed and yet more tower blocks will surround the stadium!
The Geordie Times will of course bring yoo, wor loyal reeeders the decision az soon az we find oot!

THE JELLIED EELS MOB 2 THE TOON 3 *** PREMYAA LEEGUE 2019-2020

*"IT SHUD HAVE BEEN SIX!"
For a change the train journey doon to King's Cross (London) woz on time and so we heeded for 'The Merchants Tap' in Hackney Wick not far from the groond for the customary pre match 'liquid lubrications' at '11:30 bells' (with 'Tiny Rebel' real ale at £5:50 a pint!) The pub iz in a disused factory warehouse and iz a bit of a mess inside!---very basic to say the least!---BUT! it did sell BEER!
It woz soon time to heed for the match (3 hours drinkin time later!)and thankfully the predicted heavy rain didn't happen and we had a 'soak free' walk to the London Stadium!
With 3,000 Toon fans in attendance, split into 2 section, divided by a 'trampoline' (see top photo) we were in buoyant mood!
Wor enthusiasm woz justified az we pounded the goal in front of the travellin' fans and 2 excellently heeded goals from Clark and Fernandez gave us a 2-0 lead-----but it shud have been many more az Saint-Maximin ran through the West Ham defence twice, but with anly their goalie to beat he shot at the keepers feet for the forst one--and passed to Almiron for the second, but hiz shot rebounded oot az well, (off a defender) when it looked easier to score!
Jonjo Shelvey aalso hit the bar from a great effort and we went in 2-0 up at half time, instead of 5-0 up!
We attacked the far goal in the 2nd period and soon it woz 3-0 when Shelvey hit a low free kick from ootside the box and it went into the net with their keeper beaten---to huge roars from the Toon faithful az the 'Jellied Eels Mob' fans heeded for the exits!
(Explanation: 'Jellied eels' are a favourite delicacy in "eest Landan", where West Ham fans come from!)
NUFC were 'cruisin' but 2 very sloppy goals near the end from West Ham nearly spoiled wor afternoon, but we held on to claim the valuable 3 points which lifts us up to 15th in the table and just 1 point behind Moan U in 10th place!
Wor 3 goals doubled wor away tally for the season and we now have 9 goals in total from 11 games and 12 points! (Happier days for certain)
We heeded for the night life of Camden Town after the game (with some pints more than £6 there!) before heedin back to King's Cross to catch the '8:00 bells' train yem and arrived back on Tyneside just after 'midneet bells' (4 hours back, because of 'line work'!)---but still at the predicted time---the forst time this season that we haven't had major train mishaps! (Happy days aall roond!)
Toon team: Dubravka, Yedlin, Fernandez, Lascelles, Clark, Willems (Dummett 87), Almiron, Hayden, Shelvey, Saint Maximin (Atsu 77), Joelinton (Carroll 89)
Attendance: 59,907 (3,000 buoyant Toon fans!)

"(EEST) LONDON CALLING!"
*With Sean Longstaff suspended for 3 games after hiz sendin off at home to Wolves, hiz replacement iz likely to be Issac Hayden who haz completed hiz suspension!
Matt Ritchie and Florien Lejeune are in contention to retorn, but both Fabian Schar and 'Andy "I'm crocked again!" Carroll' are predicted to miss the game!
'The Jellied Eels Mob' of West Ham haven't won in their last 4 games and so there iz a chance that we might (just might!) come away with 1 point or (hopefully) 3, provided we can find the back of the net! (just 3 away goals so far for NUFC in 5 away games!)
NUFC have sold wor entire 3,000 ticket allocation for 'The (Clever) Trevor Brooking Stand' and there iz sure to be a 60,000 crowd in total!
'The NUFC mad-sad groundhoppers' are on the '7:56 bells' train in the mornin', with plenty of 'cans' to keep us gannin to King's Cross (London)
This will be wor thord visit to West Ham's new abode and we have won 1 and lost 1 on wor previous 2 visits to The Olympic Stadium---sorry! London Stadium--and a pair of binoculars would be handy--just to to be able to see the far goal, az we are situated miles from the pitch in row 34 of the upper tier, behind the goal! "LIFE SENTENCES AND JELLIED EELS!"

West Ham!. (or West 'Aem' as the 'Cockney Boys' caall 'em!) Aa could honestly write a whole book alone on mee trips tih Upton Park.
So!---here gans! with mee very forst visit to 'eeest Landan'
This game was played in the same week as the notorious east end gangsters the Kray twins were facin' life imprisonment for the gangland killings of rivals George Cornell and 'Jack The Hat' McVitie and there was a sense of foreboding in the air as we approached the tornstiles.
We were in the 'South Bank End' that day and ah remember that a Toon fan caalled 'Kit Kat' was leadin' the 'Geordie Choir', to a rendition of 'Wyn is the King'.
Another Toon fan caalled 'Doddsy', who waz a reet radgie (and still iz!---even though he's in his late '50's nuw!) used tih wear a white butchers coat with 'LEAZES END BOOT BOYS' on the back, which was written very crudely in biro and felt tipped pen.
Underneath there was a drawin' of the F.A. Cup alang side a very large 'Doctor Martin Boot', and he was tryin' tih goad the mainly black West Ham fans in wor end to a 'punch up'.
They aall had their prince of wales suits on and carried rolled up brollies as part of their 'kit' and were knaan as 'The Brolly ***s' and they had a fearsome reputation at the time. (NO!---it's NOT! 'The Brolly Boys', by the way!)
The South Bank had a low pitched roof and shallow terracin' which made it hard to see the goaline from the back as the perimeter fence was practically on the pitch, the groond was that compact. (It was so close infact, that the goal nettin' was tied to the fences handrail!)
The white West Ham fans used to congregate in the opposite 'mirror image' North Bank end which had an even worse reputation, not unlike 'The Krays', so it was a 'no win' situation as far as we were concerned as there was still ne segregation of away fans in them days.
Yi simply paid 'your bit' at the tornsiles and 'took your chances'
To wor left was the double decker main stand which was by far the tallest structure in the groond and to wor reet was the newly built 'Chicken Run' stand, which, as it's Cockney slang name suggests, was aboot the same size as a 'hen coop'! and was aboot a qwaata of the main stands size
Before lang it 'kicked off' (not the match by the way---but the goadin'!) when the Leazes mob moved towards the 'Brolly Boys?' led by 'yee naa who'
"COME AND HAVE A GO AT THE GEORDIE AGGRO!", they yelled as they beckoned the Brolly Boys? to a pagger, but for some reason they declined the offer and before lang the 'Dibble riot squad' moved in tih quell any potential trouble by formin' a line doon the middle of the gangway.
As this was mee thord visit to 'the smoke' to watch 'The Toon' aa was hopin' for a 'thord time lucky win'----BUT!----aa just new that it was'nt gannih be wor day when
'The Hammers' scored in the second minute when 'Clever Trevor' (Brooking) had a shot which was cruely deflected past the stranded Iam McFaul in the Toon goal as he dived the wrang way! (he was aalways a 'jammy B*****D!')
Worse was to follow and after aboot quaata of an hour, West Ham went 2-0 up from a Martin Peters volley, and aall hell broke loose as the home fans goaded the Geordie hordes with chants of "Two nil—Two nil!".
The Boot Boys could'nt 'take it' and 'had a go' at The Brolly Boys' but were beaten back by the 'Dibble', who hit oot with their lang 'stick like' truncheons, which they used to carry back then.
The Toon eventually got on the score sheet with a fluke goal from Wyn Davies.
He centred the baall which went straight into the net past the desparin' Hammers keeper five minutes from time.
But!--- it was aall too late, and the final 'Hammer blow' came just before the full time whistle, when 'World Cup Hero' Geoff Hurst hit their thord tih tek the two points.
(Aye!---anly two points for a win, back then)
After the match wih had tih run a 'gauntlet of hate' as wih made wor way back tih the tube station past the various 'jellied eel' and 'pie and mash' shops and market staalls which lined the road. (jellied eels are a favourite Cockney 'delicacy' but personally aa would'nt recommend it meesel unless yi want to be ill with 'dodgy guts' that is!)
When wih got tih Kings Cross, me and mee mate Billy had tih tek refuge in the stations cafe, when a load of Spurs fans spotted us and threatened tih 'cave wor heeds in'.
The fans were much older (and bigger!) than us, and one kidda in his orly twenties, (aa was still anly fourteen!) had a huge stupid grin on his face and he kept punchin' the palm of his left hand with his right, as though, that's what he was gannin tih dee!, tih wor 'dials' when he got a haad of us!.
---We were terrified!, and were stuck there for quite a while, but!---as luck would have it, and just in the nick of time, 'the cavalry' arrived, when 'Kit Kat' and 'Doddsy' plus their motley crew suddenly appeared and they chased the Spurs fans oot the station, tih 'save wor bacon'!. (their 'stupid grins' had disappeared by this time!)
Then!----we heeded for the 'midneet bells' paper train which was a six hour (plus!) jorney back to the Toon through aall the back of beyond places imaginable, eventually arrivin' at 'The Central' at 'six thorty bells'.
We then had a lang waalk yem after that, as the busses had'nt started runnin' and we did'nt have enough money between us for a taxi.--------Happy days!???
Footnote: three days after this game was played The Kray Twins were sentenced to life imprisonment------ little did 'little me' realise at the time, but aa of course had aalready sorved five years of mee aan 'Newcastle United F.C.' 'life sentence'!
which had started in September1964 against Coventry at home!
